My mother and I always loved to take weekend trips to Holmes county and visit with our Amish friends. We are lucky enough to be able to stay with a Amish family (the Troyers) on their farm in the Daudy (grandparent) house. We have the pleasure of sitting on the porch talking to Nettie and Norman Troyer and visit with their children. |

We were invited to a Barn Raising! |
Nettie invited us to join them on April 29th to a barn raising. We were so thrilled we woke at 3:00 am to get ready. We followed them to the barn raising which started at 6:30 am. A barn raising is a all day event and unless you have a Amish friend invite you, Englishmen are not allowed to attend. At the event there were 700 Amish men, 300 Amish women and children. We were invited to eat with them and talked with them and it was the most spectacular event ever witnessed. Barn raisings only take place every 12 - 18 years. I wasn't prepared for this so by 10:30 I was on my last picture. I wished I would have had another memory card to capture more pictures. By the time the day ended all the barn would be done except for minor things. |
