A roan cocker is a type of parti or
tri-color that has roaning patterns. The white hairs will develop the
predominate color throughout the coat. For example, a pup may be born
brown and white and if the roan gene is present, the pup will produce
brown hairs throughout most of its white coat. The same is true of a
blue roan. This pup would be born black and white with the roaning
pattern producing a very attractive bluish coat. A roan can only come from a roan.
One of the parents must be a roan to pass on the gene. Pups who inherit
the gene will develop their shading around 2 to 3 weeks of age.
